New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Broadcast Engineer to install, operate and maintain its broadcast production systems. They will train reporters and producers on studio systems to ensure optimal operation and outstanding audio quality, and support remote broadcasts as needed. This position reports to the Director of Technology and is an in-person role that is based at NHPR in Concord, NH.


Key Responsibilities:

·         Maintain and update radio automation and newsroom systems and train staff on operation and best practices

·         Maintain software and firmware updates on a range of broadcast equipment and physical and virtual computers

·         Set and document technical standards and operating procedures for studio systems

·         Ensure and maintain strong and effective IT security standards

·         In collaboration with the Broadcast Transmission Engineer, install and maintain broadcast equipment including studio, satellite, and transmission systems, primarily located at the main studio facility, but also including remote locations throughout New Hampshire

·         Support production of remote broadcasts including equipment specification, maintenance, and troubleshooting

·         Maintain and operate studio audio and video for live or recorded events

·         Serve as an active member of the 24/7 emergency response rotation for all systems, including IT-based systems

·         Stay up to date on current technology and seek opportunities to learn new skills

·         Additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned


Preferred Experience:

We’re looking for someone with…


·         Minimum of two (2) years at a broadcast/studio production facility or equivalent

·         Experience building and maintaining production audio systems

·         Strong understanding of analog and digital audio

·         Experience administrating broadcast automation systems

·         Basic IP network technology skills

·         Experience troubleshooting audio transport systems, including Audio over IP/Ethernet, AES digital audio, analog audio, Studio to Transmitter Links, IP Audio Codecs, etc.

·         Strong communication skills with the ability to explain current technology to non-technical staff

·         Accuracy and strong attention to detail

·         Demonstrated strengths in initiative taking and teamwork

·         Must live or be able to travel to the NHPR facility within 45 minutes for on-call or emergency needs

·         Ability to bend, crouch, stoop, climb and lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally

·         A valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record


Other qualifications that would be useful:

·         BS degree in a related field and two (2) years of broadcast/studio engineering experience, or AS degree in a related field and five (5) years broadcast/studio engineering experience preferred

·         Experience editing and producing quality audio content

·         Expert at Digital Audio Workstation systems

·         Excellent knowledge of audio routing systems

·         Experience building and maintaining HD Radio technology

·         SBE certification preferred

·         CCNA or Network+ certification preferred

Compensation & Benefits:

This is a full time exempt position and the salary range for this role is $53,100 to $63,699 annually.
