The School of Communication & Design at Loyola University New Orleans invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track position at the rank of Visiting Professor to begin in fall 2021.

We seek an engaging educator for our new position of Visiting Professorship in Race and Culture in Media. The candidate’s teaching and service will prepare our students for future success in the communications industry by providing a critical lens through which to understand the relationship between media and communication as it relates to race, ethnicity, equality, and identity.

The School offers communication degrees with concentrations in advertising, journalism, visual communication, and public relations. The preferred candidate will develop courses that reach across these concentrations with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The candidate will also foster a broad conversation throughout the School, among faculty, students, and the School’s professional labs and competition teams, about the intersection of media, race, and culture. Responsibilities include teaching, mentoring, and advising students, faculty governance participation, assistance in recruiting, participating in school events, and working across disciplines and departments to enrich the student experience. We seek a high-energy colleague who is student-centered and brings a positive collegial attitude and additional expertise to our team.

Course load: Teach four undergraduate core curriculum and/or courses in the area of specialization courses per semester.

SALARY: Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, with excellent benefits package.

The start date of this position is August 1, 2021.

Required Qualifications:

A master’s degree is required and/or significant professional experience. Ph.D. is preferred. Professional experience in journalism or strategic communication is preferred as well as teaching experience (traditional and online settings) at the college level.

THE SCHOOL: The School of Communications and Design, one of three schools in the College of Music and Media, serves more than 400 students. The school includes the departments of journalism and strategic communications with areas in advertising, public relations, and visual communication. Art, graphic design, and digital filmmaking also make up the school. The school is committed to fostering a culturally diverse educational environment. Loyola University New Orleans is the only Jesuit institution to hold both ACEJMC accreditation and the Certification in Education for Public Relations (CEPR).
