Job Description:
A Weather Anchor / MMJ Reporter for our family-owned company is expected to share in the same baseline job description. You will report directly to the News Director, who will decide scheduling and evaluate your performance relative to the job description. Our operation is based on a story-centric workflow. That means we prioritize story treatment across a variety of platforms, from our linear broadcasts, to our streaming services, as well as social media and our digital properties. We utilize all screens to tell stories and consistently engage with viewers and readers to be an essential part of the communities we serve. Our Weather Anchors relate the weather story to viewers in a compelling, urgent, and demonstrative fashion.
Responsibilities:
Baseline Job Description: Report information “live” in scheduled newscasts, during unscheduled cut-ins, on-line and on social media as needed Interpret and analyze weather data to create local forecasts and deliver to audiences in a clear, conversational fashion. Breaking news and weather is our bread and butter. Weather Anchors are expected to guide and cover this content in a smooth, cohesive way. Our weather anchors are reflective of the communities we serve. We look for authentic personalities who have the ability to connect with the audience regardless of platform and influence their newsroom colleagues through leading by example. A competitive passion to win and openness to innovation is mandatory! Our anchor is someone passionate about promoting our products through their connection with the social media audience. An active newsroom leader who sets an example by visibly supporting and enhancing the work to improve and expand the viewer/user experience on all platforms. Represent station/company at a variety of events. These will likely occur outside of the regular workday. Report on a variety of subjects and write stories for broadcasts and special coverage. Participate in certain aspects of newscast anchoring including some copy delivery and interviewing Participate in community outreach projectsRequirements:
What You Bring (If we hire for this job: these are the qualifications of an ideal candidate): Availability for big breaking news coverage on unassigned shift. Smooth/pleasant delivery authentic to the viewers we serve. Exemplary communication skills. Strong "in-the-field and live" skills. An above-average, demonstrable knowledge of television newscast production techniques and television news writing is very helpful. Thorough knowledge of weather data interpretation and forecasting. Ability to deliver weather information in a concise and understandable way. Ability to create computer generated graphics using the Baron weather system. Proficient at posting content to various platforms. Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
