POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for creating production for KSL Broadcast Group and it’s customers, including writing, shooting and editing news content and commercial spots. Creative professional that depends on intelligence, diligence, and accuracy to contribute a unique interpretation to live and post-production. Must be able to exercise invention, imagination, and originality to work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to be flexible, versatile and efficient while adapting to station production needs.
Must be equally proficient in skills necessary for high production value projects including documentary production as those needed for quick-turn production, while being able to nimbly work within and between the various demands of these skillsets.
Understand the necessity to prioritize work when working with the various departments and facilitate production accordingly:
Live production (Parade,Telethon, Debates, etc.)
2) Sales Production
3) Marketing Production
4) News Overflow work:
Organize production details with producer/client; i.e., scheduling, budgets, scripts, etc.
Operate remote/live (MP-5) production vehicle and all associated technical equipment (i.e. microwave, lighting, camera, playback, generator, monitor and audio equipment.)
Proficient in both audio and video production on location, in a studio environment and in post-production edits.
Contact and arrange for all copy, talent, outside services, labor, equipment, art, graphics, music, facilities, props, locations, permits, and all other elements that may make up the commercial announcement and/or live productions.
Make certain that all elements are subject to the client’s approval and are aligned with all copyrighting policies.
Edit a variety of media projects on computer editing systems.
Works with client/producer to insure quality, creativity and satisfaction.
Stay current on the latest video editing techniques including new software programs.
Must especially maintain proficiency on Adobe non-linear system.
Knowledge of graphic creation and motion graphics is essential.
Meet deadlines and work effectively within budget guidelines.
Perform other related production duties as required, including technical managing, studio and location operating technician and camera work and director where needed.
Follow client’s suggestions when appropriate, as long as those ideas conform to FCC, NAB, and KSL standards. However, utilize expertise to suggest alternatives that may improve or enhance the client’s efforts.
Follow through on each project to make sure client is satisfied.
Give each client the opportunity to view and approve the finished project prior to broadcast or duplication.
Maintain orderly files.
Keep a copy of each script for at least two years as a legal reference.
Complete production work order forms and follow through for billing.
Valid driver’s license and proven ability to safely drive company vehicle or personal vehicle (as case may be) without exposing the company to serious liability risks.
Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
Work effectively in a team environment.
Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
Consistently work hours required. Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
Able to manage stress effectively.
Performs other related duties as requested.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Minimum (5) five years’ experience in live and post-production video & audio production.
BFA degree, or similar.
Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe non-linear editing system.
Demonstrated ability to learn operation of other systems and equipment as required.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, After Effects, etc…).
Proven skill operating location video equipment including camera, lighting, audio and monitors.
Demonstrated script writing experience. May be required to provide samples of work upon request.
Ability to maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of equipment and production procedures to assist on remote productions.
Proven organizational skills with the ability to construct and adhere to budgets, organize production details and maintain orderly files.
Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively within budget guidelines.
Broad knowledge of production techniques with the ability to arrange for all talent, labor, equipment, art, graphics, music, facilities, props, locations, permits, and all other elements that may make up the commercial announcement.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management and clients.
Willingness to perform other duties as required, including backup to staff as a studio and location operating technician, editor and producer.
Consistently works hours required.
Works more when required to meet deadlines including weekends, holidays, evenings, etc.
