Position Overview
KSL-TV is seeking a full-time, dynamic Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ) to join our award-winning Enterprise team. This enterprising journalist will be asked to produce, report, photograph and edit regular content for KSL-TV. High preference will be given to candidates with a background in medical reporting who are passionate about exploring all aspects of physical and mental health, trends, breakthroughs, as well as technology in the medical field. This individual will work closely with the KSL Enterprise team to manage important relationships with community partners and clients of KSL Initiatives.
The ideal candidate will display strong professional and informative on-camera communication skills. They will also be expected to deliver live reports and occasionally report on stories general assignment in nature.
Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.
This position is a hybrid role that requires the employee to sometimes work at our Salt Lake City site. Specific hybrid schedules will be determined based on business needs and evaluated by managers and senior management.
What You Will Do:
Assume primary responsibility for a wide range of health and medical stories as the lead reporter of KSL’s community health partnerships, including a weekly wellness feature, Your Life Your Health, and Healthy Mind Matters, focused on mental health and addition recovery.
Enterprise breakthrough medical broadcast and digital content.
Craft engaging, topical stories with high interest to the Utah community.
Strive to achieve accuracy, fairness and topical relevance in reporting and production of stories.
Write copy, teases and headlines that are accurate and interesting to entice the viewer to watch and read.
Apply advanced photography and editing skills to each report to maximize story-telling appeal.
Contribute other creative story-telling techniques and ideas to production of stories. Produce an attractive product by utilizing fresh approaches to packaging and production.
Work effectively in a team environment and collaborate to create compelling content.
Develop news sources for special areas of interest, as well as general assignment reports.
Write and post regularly on all digital platforms including social media.
Consistently meet deadlines as defined by KSL management, News Director, and Enterprise Managing Editors.
Set an example of professionalism, collaboration, and leadership.
Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff, management, and clients.
Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
Minimum three (3) years of commercial TV broadcast journalism/reporting experience or equivalent.
Experienced in videography and editing.
College degree in journalism, communications, related field, or equivalent experience.
Willingness to accept responsibility and work under minimal supervision.
Ability to use initiative and show innovation in problem solving.
Self-starter, capable of performing under pressure particularly during peak hours to meet job deadlines as the services performed affect the ability of others in the department to do their work.
Valid driver’s license and proven ability to safely drive company vehicle or personal vehicle (as case may be) without exposing the company to serious liability risks.
Work in compliance with Company policies and procedures.
Project and appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
Ability to utilize state-of-the-art television technology.
Knowledge of news scripting program ENPS preferred.
Ability to edit video content on Adobe Premiere preferred.
Familiarity with digital video camera operation preferred.
Proven ability to handle stress.
Prefer those with knowledge of community organizations and resources.
Physical Demands:
Lift, move and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion.
Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination.
Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hand, and/or fingers.
Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Compensation
$50,000 to $80,000 per year. Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
