Position Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced commercial attorney to join our legal team. As Associate General Counsel, you will take the lead on day-to-day legal operations and will be responsible for advising on a wide range of legal issues across all functions of the business, including commercial contracts, real estate, dispute resolution and litigation, intellectual property, and FCC compliance. The ideal candidate will be a highly collaborative, business-minded problem-solver who is exceptionally well organized and motivated by our purpose.
This is a hybrid on-site/remote role that requires the employee to regularly work in the office. Candidates based in or willing to relocate to Salt Lake City are strongly preferred, but exceptional candidates based in other Bonneville markets will also be considered.
What You Will Do:
Negotiate, draft, and review a variety of complex agreements, including vendor contracts, licenses, distribution agreements, partnerships, and data agreements
Develop, maintain, and improve template agreements and provisions, standard terms, and corporate policies and procedures
Manage litigation and dispute resolution and coordinate with outside counsel, as needed
Identify and analyze potential risks related to content generation and distribution and other business activities
Create and manage templates for station contests and sweepstakes, and review advertising materials and promotional initiatives for legal compliance
Develop and deliver legal and compliance trainings for management and station staff
Work proactively to strengthen workflow processes between the legal department and other business units
Work closely with the General Counsel to identify and analyze legal risk and handle other day-to-day legal issues arising in a complex and highly regulated business
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
At least 5 years of legal experience as counsel in a major law firm or in-house legal department
A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admittance to a state bar
Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills with proficiency in transactional agreements
Strong legal judgment and analytical skills
A team first mentality and the ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to solve problems and meet shared goals
Outstanding organizational and project management skills
Highest level of integrity and professionalism
Experience handling regulatory and commercial matters for broadcast television or radio station licensees is preferred, but not required
Physical Demands:
Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively
Substantial physical movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction with good eye and hand coordination
Lift, move, and carry up to 20 pounds on occasion
Compensation Range:
$135,000 – $200,000
Salary will be determined by an evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal and external benchmarks.
