The Digital Content Producer will gather information, generate original multimedia  content, copyedit news stories and publish to the station’s website in a professional, compelling, creative and balanced manner consistent with the goals and guidelines of the company; maintain a vibrant, informative and conversant social media presence on the company’s social media platforms.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties of the Digital Content Producer:

Under close supervision, this position will produce and copyedit multimedia news stories for publication on KTVA.com and KTVA’s social media platforms following company guidelines.

Focus:

•          Gather and deliver news and information in an accurate, objective and compelling manner for KTVA.com and KTVA’s social media platforms.

•          Utilize exceptional copy-editing skills, consistent with AP style, to produce original copy with flawless grammar, punctuation and spelling.

•          Write or edit headlines, sub-headlines and summaries for search engine optimization.

•          Assist in maintaining a vibrant, informative and conversant social media presence on KTVA’s social media platforms.

•          Exceptional copy editing skills consistent with AP style to produce original copy with excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling.

•          Produce, edit and upload video for use with digital content

•          Creation and use of images, graphics, links and other digital elements to add value to stories.

Participation/Action:

•          Follow company’s guideline to maintain an interactive presence on social media platforms

•          Participate in editorial meetings

•          Ability to balance both day-turn assignments and longer-term projects

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•          Ability to quickly learn intuitive content management software for posting stories to KTVA.com.

•          Excellent reporting and writing skills are required.

•          Ability to turn stories, particularly breaking news, and publish them to the web in optimal form as soon as possible without sacrificing accuracy.

•          Ability to use social media platforms for story and station promotion and public interaction.

•          Ability to work with minimal supervision.

•          Must have attention to detail.

•          Knowledge of station guidelines and code of ethics.

•          Must be technically astute, highly organized and have a reputation for meeting deadlines.

Technical:

•          Ability to learn proprietary video-clipping software for upload to website.

•          Experience posting with WordPress or other online content management systems

•          Knowledge of MS Office and other common office tools software required.

•          Ability to understand and quickly apply new technology.

•          Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and other graphics software tools.

•          Knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Audition and/or other video and audio editing software

•          Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms for optimal social media presence.

People Skills:

•          Strong verbal communication skills, particularly in the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and the public.

•          Must be able to reconcile divergent demands of multiple parties under tight timelines.

•          Proven ability to collaborate within and outside assigned department and create an effective working environment for high traffic and/or potential stressful workloads.

•          Excellent active listening skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical staff required.

•          Self-directed and takes the initiative on issues affecting the organization.

•          Neat, clean, professional appearance when in the field.

Physical Requirements: Office Position: Physical effort may include stooping, kneeling, touching, feeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Hearing, vision, depth perception, and hand-to-eye coordination sufficient to perform job duties. Visual and auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment and identify color-coding. Visual acuity necessary to utilize a computer monitor throughout the course of a normal workday. Ability to perform repetitive keyboarding activities and operate general office equipment. Must have the ability to communicate orally, both in person and over the telephone.

Working Conditions: Work is performed at company’s headquarters during a normal 40 hour workweek and may require additional hours to meet project goals or deadlines. Work can be intense and stressful due to time/resource limitations when scheduling multiple tasks with inflexible deadlines. Occasional travel for business and training purposes may be required. Position works a shift schedule, work holidays and weekends. Follow clothing and appearance guidelines. Work in a cooperative fashion with all other newsroom personnel.

The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the normal business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.

Minimum Qualifications:

•          Minimum of three years of writing and editing in a newsroom experience.  Knowledge of interactive digital storytelling tools, 360 video, coding and web design is preferred.  A 4-5 minute demo reel, a short professional video that showcases your versatility and creativity is highly desired.

•          High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s degree in Broadcast Technology, Business, Arts, Communications, Journalism or related field required. In addition to minimum experience required, the degree may be substituted with relevant work experience on a year for year basis. 

•          Certifications: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and can contribute toward education.

•          Driving Requirements (if applicable): Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.
