JOB SUMMARY:

The Satellite/Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing, engineering and operating live television remotes, planning and executing all field operations needs and operating SNG/ENG broadcast equipment daily. Responsible for directing and facilitating the set-up and production needs of all major remotes, live field broadcasts, coverage of specialized sporting events and specialized studio broadcasts; responsible for assisting the Engineering department with daily operations, short and long-range projects and equipment/vehicle maintenance; and shoots/edits daily news content, as needed. Position requires a Class B CDL to operate KTUU’s satellite truck. The role requires weeknight, weekend and/or weekday shifts, as assigned, and regular travel should be expected.

Responsibilities:

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operate SNG van, ENG truck, broadband units and other related equipment

• Operate RF equipment

• Operate cameras, lights, wireless mics and all other essential equipment for live and taped broadcasts, as assigned

• Direct the live production crew before, during and after newscasts

• Anticipate/prepare for breaking news

• Troubleshoot and maintain broadcast equipment, creatively determine any needed solutions

• Install and train staff on new equipment, as needed

• React quickly and appropriately to any issues with equipment and breaking news

• Communicate any issues with detail, communicate with Operations and News staff before and during all live newscasts or special programming

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5 or more years’ experience as a Broadcast Engineer, preferably with supervisory experience

• Knowledge of broadcast engineering, operations, satellites, RF and computer systems

• Ability to plan, set-up and executive major field remotes and productions – as assigned

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment at the component level

• Extensive knowledge of TV broadcasting, including FCC rules and regulations
